Food Safety Alert- Listeria Outbreak Linked to Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo

A nationwide recall of chicken fettuccine alfredo sold at Kroger and Walmart is now underway after federal health agencies connected the ready-to-eat products to a deadly Listeria outbreak. So far, 13 states have been affected, including Illinois.

The recalled ready-to-eat products, which may still be in consumers’ refrigerators, include three products made by FreshRealm: 32.8-ounce Marketside Grilled Chicken Alfredo with Fettuccine, 12.3-ounce Marketside Grilled Chicken Alfredo with Fettuccine, and Home Chef Heat & Eat Chicken Alfredo. This strain of Listeria bacteria was found in a product sample during a routine inspection in March, according to U.S. Department of Agriculture officials. The infected product found during this inspection was destroyed.

The listeria strain associated with this outbreak has been detected in individuals who fell ill between July 24, 2024, and May 10, 2025, according to the CDC. At this point, 17 people have been infected, and three deaths have been reported in Illinois, Michigan, and Texas. In addition, one pregnancy loss has been linked to the outbreak.

The investigation is ongoing, as the specific source of contamination has yet to be identified. Current cases have been identified through retail shopper records and interviews with the affected individuals.

Listeria symptoms typically appear within two weeks of eating the contaminated food, which can include fever, muscle aches, diarrhea, and nausea. In more severe cases, it can cause confusion, seizures, loss of balance, or be fatal.

If you’ve been affected by this outbreak or any contaminated food product, contact Spiros Law today. The responsible parties need to be held accountable for their negligence, and that’s what our team of product liability attorneys is here to do.
