ESSURE LAWSUIT ATTORNEYS IN CHARLESTON, IL

Protecting Your Rights

Today, there are a number of long-term and permanent contraception methods available to women. Birth control pills were the top choice for preventing pregnancy for a long time, but now, women have access to intrauterine devices (IUD), the birth control rod implant, and many other hormonal and non-hormonal options. For permanent sterilization, women generally had to turn to surgery in the past. Essure is a permanent option for birth control that does not require major surgery, but sadly, has resulted in dangerous complications for many patients. Our Charleston Essure injury lawsuit lawyers are available to discuss how these dangerous devices have impacted your life — and how we can help.

About Essure

Essure is a permanent, non-hormonal, spring-like birth control implant that is inserted in the fallopian tubes. To be effective, scar tissue in the fallopian tubes surrounds the device, forming a barrier that prevents sperm from fertilizing eggs.

Side Effects Of Essure

Most birth control options, like any drug or medical device, have side effects. The side effects that can result from an Essure implant can be severe. Essure can cause health issues such as:

  • Migraines
  • Pelvic pain
  • Allergic reaction
  • Autoimmune reaction
  • Uterus, colon, or pelvic tearing

Further, while it is a small chance — less than 1% — there is nonetheless a chance that pregnancy can occur with Essure. If a person who has an Essure device installed does get pregnant, complications including ectopic pregnancy and fetal death can result. However, the implant can cause complications whether a patient becomes pregnant or not. A patient who suffers from complications caused by Essure may require surgery to treat the issues, potentially including a hysterectomy. Due to the severe nature of Essure-related complications, many women who are injured by use of the device may face damages such as medical bills, the inability to work, loss of enjoyment of life, and pain and suffering.
