Two semis crash head-to-head, Closes Illinois 114 for several hours
Illinois 114, east of Momence, was closed for several hours on September 29, 2011 due to a head-on accident involving two semi tractor-trailer. The accident occurred around 4:30 in the afternoon.
The accident occurred when Leon Knox, of Chicago Heights, was driving eastbound and swerved into the westbound lane to avoid stopped vehicles. The westbound truck was driven by Norberto Rodriquez, of Crest Hill. The impact caused both trucks to land on the north side of the road in a field that was just west of County Road 15750E.
Members of the Momence Fire Department worked to extricate Knox, who was trapped for two hours, from the accident scene. Rodriquez also needed to be removed from his truck. Personnel from Grant Park and Bourbonnais fire departments were also at the scene to help create a landing zone for a helicopter that airlifted Knox to Advocate Christ Medical Center.
