Severe Staffing Shortages in Nursing Homes are Endangering Residents

It has been reported that a majority of nursing homes in the U.S. are currently facing staffing shortages. These shortages often result in unsafe conditions for the residents. The report by the American Health Care Association was released earlier this month and found that 98% of nursing home operators are having trouble hiring with 73% saying that staffing issues could force them to close.

One traveling certified nursing assistant that was included in the report said they sometimes have to look after 20 or more residents at a time due to the staffing shortages. They also said that out of the facilities they have traveled to, they have yet to see one be fully staffed to the adequate level. These staffing shortages result in neglect and diminished treatment and, in serious cases, can even result in death.
