Safe + Sound Week 2019

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is administering their third annual Safe + Sound Week to promote workplace safety from August 12-19, 2019. This program is designed to encourage every workplace to have a reliable safety and health program. For the past three years, one week in August is designated as Safe + Sound Week where OSHA recognizes the successes of workplace health and safety programs, in addition to providing information on how to keep workers safe while they are on the job. OSHA believes that successful safety and health programs can proactively identify and manage workplace hazards before they cause an injury or illness. By participating in OSHA’s Safe + Sound Week, organizations can help get their program started, energize existing safety programs, or provide a chance to recognize safety successes.

Participants of this week include any organization that is seeking out an opportunity to recognize their commitment to safety and is centered around management leadership, worker participation, and finding or fixing potential hazards. In 2018, over 2,700 businesses helped to raise awareness about workers’ health and safety. OSHA makes it very simple to get your business started by providing a step-by-step process on their website where businesses can sign up, plan and promote safety and health events, or recognize your business’s participation. After completing events, businesses can then download a certificate and virtual badge to recognize their organization’s participation.

Workplace safety is important to the well-being of businesses, employers, employees, as well as families. OSHA’s mission through implementing Safe + Sound Week is to ensure safe and healthful working conditions for all men and women. To do this, their goal is to set and enforce standards by providing training, outreach, education, and assistance. During Safe + Sound Week, OSHA recommends that organizations consider hosting an event for their workers or a public event to better engage the surrounding community. In addition, employers can sign up for a monthly newsletter and share their activities or events on social media channels to promote workplace safety.

Promoting a safe and healthy work environment is crucial to the success of any business and is an important factor in the well-being of all employees. By implementing a safety and health program, businesses and organizations can improve their performance and promote the wellness of employers and employees.
