Major Food Recall Affects Grower Express Products
A food recall involving some of our favorite vegetables has impacted states across the US. Trader Joes, Green Giant, and Signature Farms, packaged vegetables have all been recalled due to the risk of a Listeria outbreak in the manufacturing plant. These vegetable products were voluntarily recalled by the manufacturer, Growers Express. A single positive test of Listeria Monocytogenes was found and production of these products immediately stopped. Listeria can cause some serious, and sometimes fatal, infections in young children, elderly people, and others with a weakened immune system. Some symptoms may include but are not limited to high fevers, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and can even cause pregnant women to have miscarriages or stillbirths.
Food is typically recalled as a precautionary measure. The manufacturer will recall all product if it has made someone sick or inspectors spot a problem during production. In this case, they found the contamination during the production process. The products that are believed to be contaminated will have a “Best If Used By” date between June 26 and 29, 2019. If you have a product between these dates you can either throw the product away or take it back to the store and they should give you a refund. If you think that your product might be recalled but you cannot read the date on the package the US Food and Drug Administration encourages you to not consume the vegetables and throw the packages away. All recalls are done as a precautionary measure so do not panic if you found out about the recall after you have ingested the food, instead, you should be aware of the symptoms and contact a doctor if you experience any of the above symptoms. Production of these products stopped immediately after the manufacturer being notified of a single positive sample that was taken.
