Indicted man in fatal car accident charged with leaving the scene
Thirty-five-year-old Benjamin Thrush of Chillicothe, Illinois, was charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident that resulted in a death, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, and aggravated reckless driving last Tuesday, May 24. The charges come after he was involved in the April 30, 2016 car collision that resulted in the death of 19-year-old Chillicothe resident Jacob Fishel.
The charge of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident that resulted in a death is the most serious crime, which carries with it a four-to-15-year prison term. The charge of aggravated reckless driving assumes that Thrush was speeding at the time of the accident and was making improper lane changes. Fishel was discovered lying in a southbound lane of Illinois Route 6 after he was thrown out of his vehicle – a 2005 Pontiac Bonneville – a little after 7:30 p.m.
