Church Van Rolls Over, Injures Five People
A church van taking basketball players for a meal between games in a basketball tournament in Indiana rolled over and injured five people.
While taking part in a basketball tournament on Thursday, November 29th at Hyles-Anderson College in St. John, Indiana members of the First Baptist Church of Hammond’s school’s basketball team went to get something to eat in the community. But on the way back to the college campus the bus belonging to the church rolled over when it veered off the northbound ramp to Gary Avenue around 9:00 p.m. Five of the eleven passengers on the bus were injured.
The driver of the bus, a teacher at the school, suffered a fractured skull and was taken to St. Catherine’s Hospital in East Chicago, Indiana. One of the students was airlifted to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood after he was thrown from the vehicle. The 17-year-old boy was suffering from bleeding on the brain and a rib fracture. A second boy, 15, suffered head trauma and taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in Chicago.
