A crash by a wrong-way driver on Interstate 94 in Northern Indiana led to the death of two people.
Michael Van Der Linden, of Belleville Michigan, was at the rest area near Michigan City when he got back onto the highway. Instead of driving westward, Van Der Linden was heading eastward in the westbound lanes. About 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 16th Van Der Linden hit another driver, Portage Indiana resident Juan Nelson, going the right way in the center lane. Both cars were engulfed by flames.
Van der Linden, 38, and the other driver, 45-year-old Juan Nelson, were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The westbound lanes were closed for several hours after the crash. Police are continuing the investigation.
