Workers at Illinois correctional facility receive compensation settlements
Guards at Menard Correctional Facility in southern Illinois have received more than $1.5 million in workers compensation settlement.
The guards have said that the injuries were caused by the repetitive action of unlocking and locking the cell doors. The report shows that the settlements are anywhere between $22,000 and $120,000.
Fifty-five workers applied for compensation, which comes down to one in every 10 workers. The prison was built in 1878 and did not have electric locks so the workers had to crank the lock manually.
