Woman Charged in McHenry County Fatal Hit-And-Run Accident

An elderly woman has been charged in a hit-and-run accident that resulted in the death of a 6-year-old boy.

The Silva family was walking on the 4600 block of Franklinville Road  in McHenry County on Saturday, September 8th. At approximately 9:00 p.m., a silver or white car was seen coming down the road and unfortunately hit 6-year-old Bryan Silva of Leland. He was taken to Centegra Hospital in Woodstock where he was pronounced dead.

Police were able to track the silver 2001 Chevy Malibu after a report from a body shop came in about a car that had similar damage to the right headlight. Veramae Philip, 83, turned herself in after a warrant was issued for her arrest. It was determined that the Woodstock woman was the driver of the car at the time of the accident.
