Kankakee County residents Daniel Jones, 42, and DeeAnna Crawford, 41, were on their way home from a short vacation when their car was hit by a cargo van, killing them and injuring three others. The accident took place in the southern tip of Illinois near Paducah, Kentucky.
Jones was driving a Kia compact car that was headed east on Powers Church Road in Massac County with Crawford riding as a passenger. The Kia was at a stop sign and apparently proceeded into the intersection and the pathway of the cargo van being driven by James Helton, 30, of Benton, Ky. Both vehicles were overturned as a result of the accident.
Jones and Crawford were pronounced dead by the Massac County coroner. Helton was taken to Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah. Two other passengers in the cargo van, Brad Wolford, 35, and Brad Clark, 42, were taken to Lourdes Hospital which is also located in Paducah. All three cargo van passengers had non-life threatening injuries.
