Two Kankakee Nursing Homes Receive Fines
In relation to citations between the months of October and December 2019, two nursing homes in Kankakee County have each been fined $25,000. The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) cited both Aperion Care Bradley, located at 650 N. Kinzie Ave., Bradley, and Momence Meadows Nursing Home at 500 S. Walnut St., Momence.
Aperion Care Bradley, home to 120 bedrooms, was cited for violations regarding the failure to assess and treat a pressure wound. Momence Meadows Nursing Home, with 140 bedrooms, was fined for failing to notify the physician of critical lab values, as well as for failure to monitor and follow the physician’s orders for medication.
The IDPH gives out fines resulting from citations when there is an incident that immediately precedes the death or serious mental or physical harm to a patient. While Aperion Care Bradley was under the recent ownership of GreenTree of Bradley Nursing and Rehab Center, which changed on September 1, the facility was fined $75,000 for various care issues.
These recent nursing home fines by the IDPH reveal the alarming rate of nursing home abuse or neglect. When you place your loved one in a long-term care facility, you expect that they will be looked after with the highest level of care. Since family members are not constantly there to monitor their loved one’s care, neglect and abuse can often go unnoticed. It is important for family members to check up on their elderly loved ones and their care providers to ensure they are receiving the appropriate care they need.
Types of nursing home abuse or neglect can include general neglect and failure to provide basic needs, physical abuse or violence, emotional, verbal and psychological abuse, sexual abuse, or financial abuse and monetary manipulation or exploitation. If your loved one has suffered from abuse or neglect while receiving care at a nursing home facility, the attorneys at Spiros Law, P.C. are prepared to help you take legal action.
