Saline County vehicular accident kills young boy

A young boy died during a fatal vehicular accident that happened on U.S. Route 45 in Saline County, Illinois on Saturday, November 21 at around 10:47 in the evening.

According to a preliminary investigation, 35-year-old Sarah Schell was driving a vehicle southbound on U.S. Route 45 when, for some reason, the vehicle veered off toward the west side of the road. The collision sent the front seat passenger, 41-year-old William Schell, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident, to be partially thrown out of the car.

Sarah Schell and another female were brought to an area hospital via the Med Force Ambulance Service while William Schell was taken to a hospital in Evansville, Indiana via Air Evac Lifeteam. Sarah Schell and the girl were later transferred to the Evansville hospital as well. The young boy was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.

Lanes of traffic along that roadway were closed for more than three hours as the Illinois State Patrol – specifically an ISP crash reconstruction officer – conducted an investigation into the accident scene.
