While Peloton originally released a statement saying, “There is no reason to stop using the Tread+, as long as all warnings and safety instructions are followed,” they have now released a new statement along with the recall. “Peloton made a mistake in our initial response to the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s request that we recall the Tread+. For that, I apologize,” Peloton’s CEO said. Customers of the Peloton treadmills should stop using the product and contact Peloton for a full refund or other qualified remedies.
As of the recall, the CPSC has reports of a total of 70 incidents. Peloton is reportedly working with the commission to set new industry safety standards for treadmills. In a released statement they said, “We have a desire and a responsibility to be an industry leader in product safety.”
The recall of the Peloton Tread+ and Tread treadmills includes about 125,000 and 1,050 units, respectively, in the U.S.
