Lawsuit filed, Alleges Teacher’s Death Related to Leaks from Refinery.

A lawsuit was recently filed in Illinois’ Madison County, blaming alleged leaks from a nearby refinery for the death of a Roxanna school district employee.
Debra Och  was working as a Roxanna school district teacher and principal when she was allegedly exposed to cancer-causing benzene released by the Shell Oil Company- and BP Products North America-owned and operated refineries. Och died in 2008 of leukemia. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of her widower and their daughter.
BP states it lacks enough knowledge about some of the allegations, including Debra Och’s illness. They also denied some of the allegations.
