Evanston local faces charges in vehicular crash that killed one

Forty-two-year-old Monica Wallace of Evanston, Illinois has been charged in relation to a vehicular crash that resulted in the death of an Army veteran. The collision occurred on the 1700 block of Dodge Avenue at around 2:20 a.m. on Sunday, September 27.

According to preliminary investigations, Wallace was operating a 1998 Nissan when she hit several parked cars along the street, causing the vehicle to overturn and resulting in the death of 45-year-old Lamar Bailey, a passenger in Wallace’s vehicle who became trapped after the Nissan flipped over.

According to a Cook County State Attorney’s Office statement, Wallace was charged on September 28 with a Class 1 felony count of aggravated driving under the influence, and  a Class A misdemeanor DUI. She also received citations for disobeying a red light, driving in the wrong lane of traffic, failure to reduce speed, and lack of insurance. Wallace has since been indicted for reckless homicide as well.
