A student was fatally struck crossing the street behind a high school in New Lenox. The accident occurred on Friday, Feb. 13th, around 10 a.m. when the 17-year-old was attempting to cross U.S. Route 30 near Lincoln-Way Central High School. It is believed the teen was in school that morning and left the premises for unknown reasons.
The police say it appears the teenager slipped, fell, or tripped into the path of the semi-truck which was unable to stop before colliding with the pedestrian. He was taken to Silver Cross Hospital and pronounced dead upon arrival. There are no traffic citations or charges currently filed against the driver since he did stop after the accident occurred. Further investigation is underway, including an autopsy to determine cause of death.
The thoughts and condolences of everyone at our firm go out to the family and friends of the deceased.
