Car Accident Leads to Death of Two Women
Two women died on April 7, 2012 when the car they were in drove into a lake in the city of Carbondale and became submerged.
Marielle Carson, 20, and Latisha Ray, 21, were riding in a car with three other people. At approximately 3 a.m. the car went off a boat ramp and into Cedar Lake. Three of the occupants were able to escape the sinking vehicle.
Jackson County Coroner Tom Kupferer stated the visibility was poor at the time of the accident and the road slopes sharply into the boat ramp. It was also noted by Kupferer that the victims were trying to flee the vehicle by the locations of their bodies. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
