Burst tire resulted in fatal accident on I-94
A 14-year-old teenage girl died and seven other individuals sustained injuries in a single-vehicle accident on the Tri-State Tollway (Interstate 94), according to a Chicago Sun-Times article on June 7.
The accident occurred north of Lincolnshire at around 10:15 p.m. According to Illinois State Police Master Sergeant Jim Knipper, a white 2002 Ford Explorer was heading east on I-94 near the Half Day Road exit when the SUV suddenly blew a tire, veered off from the roadway and crashed into the highway’s right guardrail.
Three of the SUV’s occupants were thrown out of the vehicle, including the 14-year-old girl, and into the roadway. The teenage girl was then hit by a semi-truck, causing her instantaneous death at the scene of the accident. The seven others were hospitalized with injuries, none of which were reported as life-threatening.
As of this article’s posting, no citations have yet to be issued to anyone involved in the car accident, Knipper reported.
