Two children riding bicycles in Kankakee were sent to the hospital after being struck by a car on Tuesday afternoon.
A boy and girl were on their bicycles heading west on Merchant Street when they approached South Washington Street. Just after 2:45 p.m. on August 7th. They entered the intersection without stopping, according to witnesses. At that time, Jon Anderson was driving his black Hyundai Accent south on Washington. He was unable to stop his car in time.
Witnesses reported seeing one child flip over the car’s hood and the left side of the Hyundai’s windshield was shattered. Both children were taken to Provena St. Mary’s Hospital. They were conscious and crying as emergency care personnel strapped them onto gurneys. Anderson was not given a citation.
