Two-car crash causes closure of Route 17

Three people were sent to the hospital after being involved in a two-car collision on Illinois Route 17 on Tuesday.

According to officials, the accident occurred just after 5 p.m. when a Dodge van and Ford Focus somehow collided. Police officers do not know what caused the crash at this time, but both vehicles suffered serious damage.

Two of the victims were taken to Riverside Medical Center and the third was taken to Provena St. Mary’s Hospital. One person was said to be in critical condition as a result of the crash. The highway was reopened shortly after crews cleared the scene.
