Suspect in custody after hit and run accident that killed pedestrian
The Granite City Police Department in Illinois announced on April 21 that authorities have taken into custody a suspect they believed may have caused a fatal hit-and-run accident that killed 25-year-old Mark Scott Harris, the Belleville News-Democrat reported.
Granite City police were seeking a silver to gray two-door extended cab truck that they believed ran into Harris, who had been walking at the side of the road.
Harris’ body was found at around 8 a.m., approximately five hours after he was hit and left there. Although Harris sustained other injuries, the injury that caused death was trauma to the head, according to the County Madison Coroner Steve Nonn.
As of this report, Assistant Police Chief Major Ken Rozell said that details would remain under wraps until the charges have been finalized. The department will make their case at the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office.
