Stricter rules on boating while impaired to be implemented
A new measure instituted in Illinois has been put in place to protect boaters this year, according to the Daily Journal on May 8.
Senator Julie Morrison, Democrat of Deerfield, introduced a bill designed to bring penalties for boating while under the influence more on par with penalties for drinking while driving. This supplements a law she successfully passed around two years ago that requires boat operators involved in injurious or fatal accidents to succumb to some sort of chemical test that measures whether any alcohol or drugs were in their systems at the time of the boat crash.
