Motorcyclist Dies After Crash With Car in Libertyville

Late in the evening of  Wednesday, June 13th, a Mount Prospect man died after his motorcycle was hit by a car in Libertyville.

William Thedorf Sr., 79, was traveling south on Route 45 in Libertyville as a train was running parallel to Rt. 45. An 18-year-old driver of a Volkswagen was heading north on Rt.45 and was waiting to turn left onto Winchester once the train had passed the crossing. The other driver began turning once the train had passed and crashed into Thedrof on his Harley Davidson.

Thedrof was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.  He died there at 3:28 a.m. according to the Lake County Coroner of multiple traumatic injuries. According to Lake county officials, Thedrof was wearing a helmet, a padded jacket and normal precautions.

Charges have not been filed as of yet but preliminary indications are that the driver is at fault for the accident. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash. The driver of the VW stated he did not see the motorcycle before turning. The Libertyville police and Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team are currently investigating the accident.
