Momence community leader dies

On Wednesday, November 20, William Gilbert, 84, was collecting donations for the landscaping of a newly sanctioned park, when a public works truck hit and killed him around 3 p.m. He was standing at the corner of 6th Avenue and Ash Street.

Gilbert’s sudden death has left people in the Momence community grieving. Many people admired Gilbert for his unrelenting dedication to family and community. Over his lifetime, Gilbert participated in countless community initiatives.

In addition to being a community leader, Gilbert was a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.

The lawyers of Spiros Law, P.C., extend our condolences to Gilbert’s family and the whole Momence community for this tragic loss.
