Kankakee woman killed in two-vehicle accident

A young woman has lost her life in a two-vehicle accident that occurred in the eastbound lane of Interstate 74, about five miles away from Crawfordsville, Indiana just two days before Thanksgiving at around 9:43 in the evening.

The victim was identified as 18-year-old Kankakee, Illinois resident Jesse Lee Saltsgiver, who had been riding in the backseat of a vehicle being driven by a 24-year-old Danville man who was not identified by police officers. The accident happened when the vehicle carrying Saltsgiver was attempting to merge back onto the interstate after changing a flat tire. The car was struck by a van whose driver and his passenger were both taken to the hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening.

An Indiana State Police press release stated that Saltsgiver was declared dead at the scene of the accident.

A 23-year-old female resident of Danville, who was also sitting at the back seat when the accident occurred, sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Crawfordsville before being airlifted to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
