Illinois family awarded $2.4 million in medical malpractice case

An Illinois jury recently awarded the family of Sue Yates $2.4 million after she died in 2007 during a medical procedure.

47-year-old Sue Yates died on March 11, 2007 after seeking medical attention at Carbondale Memorial Hospital for bowel obstruction. Her unexpected death prompted her family to file a medical malpractice case in Williamson County Court.

The plaintiffs sued Dr. Daniel Doolittle and Legatus Emergency Services of Southern Illinois for actual damages, since seeking punitive damages is not permitted in Illinois medical malpractice cases.

The attorneys of Spiros Law, P.C., extend our thoughts to those affected by this unfortunate event.
