Herscher Resident Dies in Motorcycle/Truck Crash in Dwight

A correctional officer from Dwight Correctional Center who was a Herscher resident and volunteer firefighter/EMT died May 25th as a result of an accident involving a utility truck and the man’s motorcycle.
Richard Peters, 48, was on his motorcycle heading towards his workplace when he approached the intersection of 3000E Road and 3100N Road, just east of the town of Dwight. At 2:17 p.m., Peters was struck by the utility truck at the intersection.
Mr. Peters was taken to Morris Hospital by Dwight EMS where he was pronounced dead in the emergency room. The accident remains under investigation by Grundy County Coroner John W. Callahan and the Livingston County Sheriff Department.
