Family Hit by Car in Highland Park, Leaves 5-Year-Old Dead
A car jumped the curb on Monday afternoon and hit a family as they walked on the sidewalk, ending with the death of a 5-year-old girl.
On September 3rd, a 25-year-old woman was walking on the 700 block of Central Avenue in Highland Park with her 5-year-old daughter and two sons –ages 2 and 4. At approximately 2:30 in the afternoon, a Lexus coupe jumped the sidewalk and hit the entire family.
A nearby resident helped the family after hearing the mother call out “My girl, my girl” in Spanish. He grabbed towels and used them to compress the wounds on the little girl until paramedics arrived. The girl died around 5:00 p.m. at Evanston Hospital. Her mother and brothers were taken there as well. The 18-year-old female driver of the car was treated for injuries at the same hospital and later released.
No charges have been filed as police continue to investigate the accident.
