The driver of the second cab and a passenger in the first cab suffered minor injuries. The driver of the first cab, Kakajan Islamov, was treated and released. Before the fall of 2011, Kelsey Little was an active 13-year-old who was a straight-A-student at school as well as an active participant in sports and dance classes.
Then in October 2011, she was hit by a pick-up truck as she walked home from a Minooka ice cream stand with friends. The driver was a 16-year-old male who was charged for not slowing down and driving without a license. Kelsey was taken to Provena St. Joseph Hospital where tests revealed she had traumatic head injuries. She was airlifted to Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago only hours later.
Kelsey was in the hospital for nearly a week before the wound on her head healed completely. She wore a neck brace during her hospital stay and for two weeks after her release to prevent further neck injury.
Since then Kelsey has had two hemotomas, which is swelling of the brain at the site of the injury. Her short term memory has been affected, making studying harder for the 9th grader. Some days, she has headaches that are nearly unbearable. Her doctors stated that the original injury, the skull fracture, only began to mend eight months after the accident.
But according to her mother, Kelsey is still the same loving daughter and friend that she has always been. Her schedule at school is lighter but she is on the pom squad at her high school.

A correctional officer died after being hit by a hit-and-run driver while on her way to work on Wednesday, July 18th.
Nickkii Bostic-Jones, 38, was walking from her car to the Cook County Jail for her 11 p.m. – 7 a.m. shift as a corrections officer. As Bostic-Jones was crossing the street a navy-blue van was heading north on California Avenue near 29th Street and hit the guard. Bostic-Jones was thrown into a sheriff’s squad car was coming from the other direction and was pinned under that car as the van drove off.
Bostic-Jones was taken to Mt. Sinai hospital where she passed away. The driver of the squad car is emotionally shaken by the accident but was physically uninjured. The police are looking for a grey Chevy van with blue and whit strips that is reported to have some damage on the front end.
Union officials are calling for the city of Chicago to place a crosswalk or a traffic light on the street to better protect employees at the county jail. The section of California Avenue where Bostic-Jones was hit is known for being ‘extremely dangerous.’
