A pedestrian was killed on a street corner in the River West neighborhood of Chicago when a taxi cab driver lost control of his vehicle.

Around 6 a.m. on Tuesday, August 14, Eric Kerestes was at the intersection of Chicago and Milwaukee Avenues when a cab drove through and hit the curb before hitting a light pole and  a CVS drug store before rolling over. Kerestes was hit by the cab and thrown fifteen feet. Another driver in the area called 911 about the accident.

The passenger in the cab was able to get out of the vehicle without assistance. The driver received help from other drivers and pedestrians to get out of the car just as the cab caught on fire. He was reported as repeatedly saying “I tried to put the brakes on” as he was led to the sidewalk.

Family of Woman Hit and Killed in Megabus Accident Files Suit

Posted on August 13th, 2012 No Comments

The family of a retired legal secretary who was hit by a Megabus in Chicago this past week has filed a suit against the busing company.

Donna Halstead, 76, was walking back to her West Loop apartment on August 7, 2012 around 2:00 p.m. She was in the crosswalk on Adams  Street at Canal Street with the light when a Megabus turned left onto her street. Halstead was hit by a mirror on the bus and thrown to the pavement, suffering a head injury. She was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where she died four hours later.

The lawsuit claims negligence and wrongful death on the part of the Megabus company as the driver did not ensure a clear entry into the lane. Megabus, Inc.  had two other accidents this week in Southern Illinois and Georgia, one of which resulted in the death of one passenger.

An early morning car chase ended up causing injury to a window washer on scaffolding upon collision with the scaffolding in downtown Chicago.

During the early morning hours of April 26th, the driver of an Infiniti was headed east on Ohio Street when a BMW began following the car and rear-end it once. The BMW hit the first car again, this time causing the Infiniti to lose control and hit a taxi cab. It then hit a Ford truck that is owned by a window cleaning company.

The truck or the Infiniti then hit the scaffolding. A worker was on top of the scaffolding, cleaning windows to a restaurant. The worker then fell 25 feet to the ground. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where the worker’s condition was stabilized. The taxi driver was taken to Northwestern as well but he was treated and released.
