Man injured after truck crashes into a ditch

A man suffered life-threatening injury as a result of a truck accident that occurred Wednesday morning in Champaign County.

According to the sheriff’s office in Champaign County, the accident was reported just before 9 a.m. when a passing motorist saw the truck resting on its wheels in a 20 foot ditch.

The ditch was filled with three feet of water and it was starting to get into the floorboards of the truck. Emergency crews arrived at the scene to find the 22-year-old driver in and out of consciousness. He was transported to Carle Foundation Hospital in order to be treated for injuries that were considered non-life threatening.

One injured in semi-truck rollover on Illinois Route 1

One person was injured in a semi-truck rollover accident that occurred Monday on Illinois Route 1.

According to Illinois police, the 42-year-old driver of a semi-truck was traveling on Route 1 when the truck left the road. The truck then tried to get the vehicle back onto the road and he overcorrected causing him to lose control.

The vehicle, which was carrying gasoline, flipped over as a result. The scene was not contaminated, but crews did arrive to transport the fuel to another tanker. The roadway was closed for nearly 11 hours while the cleanup crew worked.

The driver was able to discuss the accident with police officials, but was transported to Riverside Medical Center in order to be treated. He was cited for improper lane usage and failure to wear a seat belt.

Three semi-trucks involved in an accident on I-57

A semi-truck accident on Interstate 57 caused a traffic build up on Tuesday morning.

According to highway patrol officials, the accident occurred after one semi-truck overturned on the roadway. It is unknown at this time how the other two semi-trucks became involved.

One driver was transported to the hospital in order to be treated for the injuries sustained in the accident. After arriving at Provena St. Mary’s Hospital his injuries were considered non-life threatening. The other truck drivers refused medical attention. Police are currently investigating further details into the accident.

Accident on northbound I-57 causes traffic buildup

A semi-truck accident on Interstate 57 caused traffic in the area to back up on Tuesday morning

According to officials with the Illinois State Police, a semi-truck overturned just after 5 a.m., but details were still unknown about what caused the accident later in the morning.  There were injuries involved, but specifics are still not known.

Traffic was reduced to one lane so that emergency crews could clear the scene.

The other lanes of traffic were reopened  at 11 a.m. The investigation into the accident is continuing at this time.

One killed in semi-truck accident on Illinois 114

One person was killed after a semi-truck accident occurred Thursday on Illinois 114.

According to officials, the accident occurred in Momence, just near Kankakee County, when two semi-trucks collided head-on. The two trucks ended up in  field off the side of the road and one person had to be extricated from the vehicle as a result of the crash.

The road was closed as a result of the crash for several hours. Further details on the accident are still being investigated at this time.

Teen in stable condition after Manteno accident

A 17-year-old teenager is now in stable condition after she was involved in a head-on truck accident on Friday. As a result of the accident, the teen was transported to Loyola Medical Center in order to be treated for serious injuries.

The Kankakee County sheriff’s office stated that the cause of the accident will not be known until a reconstruction of the accident is complete. This investigation could take more 30 days.

The accident occurred at 8:30 a.m. when an SUV collided with a garbage truck.

The woman had to be extricated from the vehicle using the Jaws of Life. The driver of the truck was not injured and has not been charged at this time.

One killed in semi-trailer accident near construction site

One Chicago man was killed as a result of a semi-trailer accident that occurred on Interstate 65 in central Indiana.

According to Indiana State Police, the accident occurred  when the semi-trailer collided with the rear of another vehicle that was stopped in traffic. The collision caused a fire because the truck that was hit was carrying petroleum products and paint and it caused both vehicles to be engulfed in flames.

The 23-year-old driver of the truck that rear-ended the other car, was killed as a result of the crash. The lanes of traffic were then closed so that crews could clean up the spill and clear the scene.  The other driver was not injured in the crash.

Truck Collides with Amtrak Passenger Train, Leave Six Dead

As the Amtrak passenger train went through a crossing in Nevada on June 24, 2011, a semi-tractor trailer truck crashed through it, causing the train to catch fire and leaving six people dead.

The California Zephyr train left Chicago and was headed to California at the time of the accident. It is unknown as to why the driver did not see the train earlier as there was flashing lights that could be seen at least a quarter mile away. There were 200 hundred passengers on the train and 14 crewmembers. The driver of the truck, the conductor and four others lost their lives in the accident.

The fire at the crash site was very hot, causing difficulties in the investigation. Nevada authorities have brought in at least one forensic anthropologist to help with the scene. Earl Weener, a National Transportation Safety Board member, stated it will take time to find out exactly how the accident happened.

Traffic ties up after accident on Illinois 50

An accident between a truck that was hauling a trailer and another vehicle that was towing a U.S. Postal Service vehicle caused both lanes of traffic to back up on Illinois 50.

The accident occurred Tuesday at approximately 9:30 a.m. when the two vehicles collided and caused the USPS vehicle to break free and crash into a utility pole. Eastbound and westbound traffic from North Street were diverted while crews cleared the scene.

No serious injuries were reported in the crash.

Manteno woman killed in Kankakee crash

A Manteno woman was killed after a semi-truck accident occurred on Illinois Route 50.

The accident occurred on Tuesday when the woman’s Buick collided with the semi-truck on the 10800 block of Illinois Route 50. A portion of the road was closed for hours while crews cleared the area.

The 86-year-old woman was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee and then transferred to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. It was here that she was later pronounced dead.
