A drunk driving head-on collision on Illinois Route 17 took the life of a Kankakee man on Sunday night.
According to police officials, the accident occurred as a 21-year-old driver was traveling westbound down the roadway when the vehicle crossed the center line and collided with an eastbound vehicle.
Police also stated that the it took nearly 45 minutes to extricate one passenger from the wreckage. One passenger, a 21-year-old male was killed in the crash. Police believe that the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision.
A 25-year-old woman was killed after an accident at the Balmoral Park horse racing track on Monday.
According to Illinois State Police, the accident occurred as the woman was riding a horse, or walking next to it, around 5:07 a.m. when she was struck by a pickup truck. The woman was killed instantly and the horse was injured.
There was another woman near the horse when the accident occurred and she was also injured and transferred to the hospital. The driver of the pickup truck was arrested and charged with aggressive driving under the influence.
