Interstate 57 was the site a multiple semi-trailer accident on Thursday, August 19, 2010. The Will County Coroner was called to the scene near the 325-mile marker in Will County.
Just before 5:00 pm the first semi-trailer hit the second semi-trailer in the north-bound lanes. Emergency dispatchers reported that a few minutes later a third semi-trailer became involved with the first accident.
Northbound traffic was re-routed off at the Manteno exit. The back-up was so great it went several miles back as far as Bourbonnais in the northbound lane.
This was the second fatal accident to occur on I-57 in Will County on that day. An earlier accident occurred in the morning, leaving one of the drivers of a semi-trailer truck dead.
