According to officials, the accident occurred on the northbound lanes of Interstate 55 and caused them to be closed for hours, but it is unknown what the exact cause of the crash was.

Another accident occurred near Joliet when a semi-truck struck the back of a pickup truck that was stopped on the road’s shoulder. This accident occurred during the morning commute and caused one lane of traffic to be closed.

On Monday, June 13^th, a car drove through the backyards of several homes in Bradley, Illinois. The driver was sent to the hospital after she was extricated from the car by the fire department.

Sonja Grace, 67, of Herscher was southbound on I-57 when she lost control of her car. She hit the front end of a truck before veering towards the right into three backyards on the 500 block of Pierce Avenue in Bradley, finally stopping when her car hit the deck on one house. No one was in any of the three yards at the time of the accident.

Grace was removed from her car and taken to Provena St. Mary’s Hospital for minor injuries while the driver of the truck reported no injuries. The state police are investigating the accident.

One accident occurred as a 29-year-old Bourbonnais man was traveling southbound on Kennedy Drive  just before 3 p.m. when he swerved off of the road for unknown reasons and struck a tree.

The driver was stuck in the vehicle and emergency crews had to remove the door in order to get to him. The man’s son was also taken to the hospital to be treated after the accident, but his condition is not known at this time.

According to Illinois State Police, the accident occurred near the Bradley-Bourbonnais exit just before 6 a.m. The woman was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital to be treated for serious injuries.

The woman was also cited for failure to wear a seat belt after the accident. The cause of the incident remains under investigation at this time.

According to officials, the accident occurred on Illinois Route 1 when the  man was operating the  motorcycle and collided with another vehicle at the intersection 3000S Road.

The motorcyclist was traveling southbound down the roadway when he collided with the other vehicle that was attempting a left turn. The two passengers in the other vehicle were also taken to the hospital to be treated. The motorcyclist is currently in critical condition at this time.

Walter Waszak Jr., 36, was traveling north on Skyline Road in rural Kankakee County on March 27, 2011. Near 2624  North Road, Waszak’s c ar crossed the centerline

and struck a mailbox. The auto then hit a culvert before rolling over. Waszak was taken to Provena St. Mary’s Hospital and pronounced dead at 2:57 a.m.

According to Coroner Robert Gessner, an autopsy has been scheduled and the accident is being reconstructed to determine the cause of the accident.

Beatrice Poortenga was driving eastbound on 8000 North Road. At the intersection of Illinois routes 1 and 17, the 83-year-old Lansing, Illinois resident apparently failed to stop. According to Sgt. Angela Kinstner of the Illinois State Police, Poortenga’s car was then hit by a southbound semi trailer and then hit by a northbound box truck. Poortenga was later pronounced dead at Provena St.

Mary’s Hospital.

The car was hit by a truck that lead the car to going over the curb and coming within inches of the house.
 
According to the Daily Journal, Theresa Jones stated her two children normally play in front of the house but they were in the back yard at the time of the crash. The Kankakee Fire Department was called and spent fourteen minutes removing two people from the car just outside of the front porch of the house. These two people were taken to Provena St. Mary’s Hospital. Privacy laws prevented the release of the victims’ names.

The accident took place on westbound Illinois Route 17 at 8500 West Road in rural Piot Township. The crash took place at 7:35 a.m. when two cars were stopped as a school bus was stopped and loading children. Two people were treated for injuries in this crash although none of the children were hurt.

Just before 5:00 pm the first semi-trailer hit the second semi-trailer in the north-bound lanes. Emergency dispatchers reported that a few minutes later a third semi-trailer became involved with the first accident.

Northbound traffic was re-routed off at the Manteno exit. The back-up was so great it went several miles back as far as Bourbonnais in the northbound lane.  

This was the second fatal accident to occur on I-57 in Will County on that day. An earlier accident occurred in the morning, leaving one of the drivers of a semi-trailer truck dead.
