One accident occurred as a 29-year-old Bourbonnais man was traveling southbound on Kennedy Drive  just before 3 p.m. when he swerved off of the road for unknown reasons and struck a tree.

The driver was stuck in the vehicle and emergency crews had to remove the door in order to get to him. The man’s son was also taken to the hospital to be treated after the accident, but his condition is not known at this time.

Walter Waszak Jr., 36, was traveling north on Skyline Road in rural Kankakee County on March 27, 2011. Near 2624  North Road, Waszak’s c ar crossed the centerline

and struck a mailbox. The auto then hit a culvert before rolling over. Waszak was taken to Provena St. Mary’s Hospital and pronounced dead at 2:57 a.m.

According to Coroner Robert Gessner, an autopsy has been scheduled and the accident is being reconstructed to determine the cause of the accident.

Helmig’s truck accelerated, going north. His truck hit three parked cars before hitting the Starbuck’s building, pushing the outer wall approximately four feet inside the café.
 
Bradley Police Chief Steve Coy stated to the Daily Journal that all four people appeared to have minor injuries from the crash. The café was closed as of January 14th due to the structural damage.

Wilmington water superintendent, Jacque Plese, has stated their tests show no changes in water quality.

The car was hit by a truck that lead the car to going over the curb and coming within inches of the house.
 
According to the Daily Journal, Theresa Jones stated her two children normally play in front of the house but they were in the back yard at the time of the crash. The Kankakee Fire Department was called and spent fourteen minutes removing two people from the car just outside of the front porch of the house. These two people were taken to Provena St. Mary’s Hospital. Privacy laws prevented the release of the victims’ names.

Just before 5:00 pm the first semi-trailer hit the second semi-trailer in the north-bound lanes. Emergency dispatchers reported that a few minutes later a third semi-trailer became involved with the first accident.

Northbound traffic was re-routed off at the Manteno exit. The back-up was so great it went several miles back as far as Bourbonnais in the northbound lane.  

This was the second fatal accident to occur on I-57 in Will County on that day. An earlier accident occurred in the morning, leaving one of the drivers of a semi-trailer truck dead.

On July 30, 2010, Hale pleaded not guilty to the charges from that accident. Those charges consist of reckless operation of a watercraft, illegal operation of a watercraft while under the influence of alcohol and operating a watercraft with an blood-alcohol content over .08.

The accident occurred on May 29 around midnight. Hale was found to have a blood-alcohol level that was three times the legal limit when he hit the other watercraft from behind. According to an earlier report from the Daily Journal, six people were injured in that accident.
