A collision between two vehicles on Interstate 57, a few miles south of Paxton, left five individuals in need of medical treatment for injuries sustained in the accident. The collision occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 28th, when an SUV driven by a Champaign resident sideswiped a pickup truck in the next lane, causing both vehicles to roll over.
The accident injured both drivers, as well as the passengers in their respective vehicles, two girls and an older woman. While all those involved in the accident were taken to a nearby hospital, there injuries were fortunately reported as non-life threatening. The driver of the SUV was issued a citation for improper lane usage.

An accident in the small Illinois town of Harvard has lead to the death of a Woodstock woman.
Alysha Thurow-Gitzinger, 20, was driving on North Division Street with another passenger in her car in the early hours of October 16th. Just after 1:00 a.m. a car driven by Hugo C. Dells III, 42, crossed over the center line of the street and crashed into Thurow-Gitzinger’s car.
Thurow-Gitzinger was taken to Mercy Harvard Hospital and later pronounced dead. Her passenger was treated there as well for injuries. Two passengers in Dells’ car were also injured. Dells, a resident of Darien, Wisconsin, was charged with driving while suspended, aggravated DUI as well as driving without insurance and expired registration. He was taken to jail in lieu of bond.

After a mid-morning collision in Manteno on Thursday, two people were taken to the hospital for treatment. The pickup truck and van that collided were at the crossroads of 700W and 900N. Police from Kankakee County were the first authorities on the scene and determined that medical treatment was necessary.
Sheri Lynn Isaacson, a 38 year old woman from Channahon was driving one of the vehicles at the time of the accident. After being transported to Provena St. Mary’s hospital, she was assessed and released. The other passenger’s information was not released because of their age.

A Joliet man has died after being hit by an automobile last week. The 30 year old man had been walking in the street when he was struck by a deputy of the Will County Sheriff’s Department. He was taken to Silver Cross Hospital for treatment after the late night collision, and put on life support for several days.
At this time the accident is still under investigation by law enforcement authorities and the deputy that hit the man is on administrative leave until a ruling can be made regarding the crash.

Two women died on April 7, 2012 when the car they were in drove into a lake in the city of Carbondale and became submerged.
Marielle Carson, 20, and Latisha Ray, 21, were riding in a car with three other people. At approximately 3 a.m. the car went off a boat ramp and into Cedar Lake. Three of the occupants were able to escape the sinking vehicle.
Jackson County Coroner Tom Kupferer stated the visibility was poor at the time of the accident and the road slopes sharply into the boat ramp. It was also noted by Kupferer that the victims were trying to flee the vehicle by the locations of their bodies. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.

Kankakee County residents Daniel Jones, 42, and DeeAnna Crawford, 41, were on their way home from a short vacation when their car was hit by a cargo van, killing them and injuring three others. The accident took place in the southern tip of Illinois near Paducah, Kentucky.
Jones was driving a Kia compact car that was headed east on Powers Church Road in Massac County with Crawford riding as a passenger. The Kia was at a stop sign and apparently proceeded into the intersection and the pathway of the cargo van being driven by James Helton, 30, of Benton, Ky. Both vehicles were overturned as a result of the accident.
Jones and Crawford were pronounced dead by the Massac County coroner. Helton was taken to Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah. Two other passengers in the cargo van, Brad Wolford, 35, and Brad Clark, 42, were taken to Lourdes Hospital which is also located in Paducah. All three cargo van passengers had non-life threatening injuries.

The Gold Coast neighborhood in Chicago was the scene of an accident involving a city truck and several pedestrians. The accident occurred Saturday, May 21, 2011 as people were walking and a photographer was conducting a photo shoot of a “bride and groom.”
The accident took place at the intersection of State, Rush and Cedar streets when the driver of the Streets and Sanitation pick-up truck lost control of the vehicle while going north on State Street. Before finally coming to a stop the truck sideswiped a parked vehicle and hit seven people including a photographer and two models as well as a nanny and the toddler she cares for.
Several ambulances came to the scene, taking eight people to local hospitals. The toddler was taken to Children’s Memorial Hospital while others were taken to Northwestern Hospital.
The driver, who was found to have a liquor bottle in the vehicle, was also taken to the hospital. The Major Accident Investigation Unit is looking into the accident.

The manager for the touring Pakistani musical group died in an accident while traveling to a performance in the Chicago suburb of Villa Park. Four musicians of the touring group were also injured in the accident.
According to authorities, Chtresh Shrivastava, resident of the Indian city of Mumbai, was traveling from Detroit to Villa Park on Saturday afternoon. Shrivastava died after the vehicle left the road on Interstate 94 about 100 miles west of Detroit and went into a ditch. The SUV then rolled over several times. Four other passengers in the vehicle were taken by helicopter or ambulance to hospitals in the Kalamazoo area and are all expected to survive.
They were on their way to work at a performance by Bollywood star, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan who is a Pakistani musician with credits in many of India’s Bollywood Studios movies and several Hollywood movies.

An SUV crashed into a Dunkin’ Donuts store in downtown Chicago after colliding with a taxi cab on Tuesday, May 3, 2011. Two people were injured as a result of the accident.
The crash took place at the intersection of South Wells and West Adams around 5:45 in the morning. When the two cars crashed, the SUV was pushed towards the Dunkin’ Donuts store and became stuck in the front entrance of the donut shop.
There was at least one employee at the store which was open for business at the time of the accident. No one in the building was reported to be injured.
The two drivers were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in fair condition.
Central District officers are investigating the cause of the accident. Citations and charges for the accident have not been reported at this time.

A well-respected minister for the Amazing Grace Bible Church in Watseka was killed when his car left the interstate and plunged into a creek on Monday night. The accident occurred on southbound Interstate 57, four miles north of Gilman. While authorities do not yet know the exact cause of the accident, sources say that the minister may have suffered a medical condition that led directly to the fatal crash.
