Car veers off highway, drives through three backyards before stopping.
On Monday, June 13th, a car drove through the backyards of several homes in Bradley, Illinois. The driver was sent to the hospital after she was extricated from the car by the fire department.
Sonja Grace, 67, of Herscher was southbound on I-57 when she lost control of her car. She hit the front end of a truck before veering towards the right into three backyards on the 500 block of Pierce Avenue in Bradley, finally stopping when her car hit the deck on one house. No one was in any of the three yards at the time of the accident.
Grace was removed from her car and taken to Provena St. Mary’s Hospital for minor injuries while the driver of the truck reported no injuries. The state police are investigating the accident.

The Gold Coast neighborhood in Chicago was the scene of an accident involving a city truck and several pedestrians. The accident occurred Saturday, May 21, 2011 as people were walking and a photographer was conducting a photo shoot of a “bride and groom.”
The accident took place at the intersection of State, Rush and Cedar streets when the driver of the Streets and Sanitation pick-up truck lost control of the vehicle while going north on State Street. Before finally coming to a stop the truck sideswiped a parked vehicle and hit seven people including a photographer and two models as well as a nanny and the toddler she cares for.
Several ambulances came to the scene, taking eight people to local hospitals. The toddler was taken to Children’s Memorial Hospital while others were taken to Northwestern Hospital.
The driver, who was found to have a liquor bottle in the vehicle, was also taken to the hospital. The Major Accident Investigation Unit is looking into the accident.

A crash that occurred just south of Pontiac on Friday, March 18, 2011 killed a 63-year-old Pontiac woman and remains under investigation.
According to the Pontiac Daily Leader, Bonifacia Pina was a passenger in the back seat as her husband, Juan Pina, was driving northbound on Route 66. Their Chevrolet Equinox was struck by Chicagoan Calvin E. Boyd’s 1997 BMW as Boyd was headed southbound. Once Mrs. Pina was extracted from the vehicle she was taken to OSF Saint James-John W. Albrecht Medical Center’s emergency room where she was pronounced dead.
Mr. Pina, 81, and Mr. Boyd, 50, were airlifted to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, Peoria. As of Monday, March 21st, both men were listed in fair condition.
There was also a 2-year-old child in the Pina vehicle but no report on the condition of the child was available.

A bridge area east of Clifton that has been the site of many accidents over the years was the scene of another accident Monday, February 21st.
The Crooked Bridge area saw a rollover car accident that took the lives of two people.
Dave and Mary Gross of Buckingham were returning home Monday night after attending the basketball practice of a young relative when it is surmised their car rolled over and went in the drainage ditch. The accident was not discovered until Tuesday morning.
The ditch is deep and the water is fast moving. Mr. Gross’ body was found in the car immediately. Mrs. Gross’ body was found several miles away from the accident site on Saturday, February 26th. The family is planning a joint wake and funeral service for the couple who were married at the beginning of February.

Grant Park, in north-eastern Kankakee County, was the site of an accident that cost an elderly woman her life on November 2, 2010.
Beatrice Poortenga was driving eastbound on 8000 North Road. At the intersection of Illinois routes 1 and 17, the 83-year-old Lansing, Illinois resident apparently failed to stop. According to Sgt. Angela Kinstner of the Illinois State Police, Poortenga’s car was then hit by a southbound semi trailer and then hit by a northbound box truck. Poortenga was later pronounced dead at Provena St.
Mary’s Hospital.

It was a near miss for a Kankakee house when a car jumped a curb on Greenwood Avenue, injuring two people in the process.
The car was hit by a truck that lead the car to going over the curb and coming within inches of the house.
According to the Daily Journal, Theresa Jones stated her two children normally play in front of the house but they were in the back yard at the time of the crash. The Kankakee Fire Department was called and spent fourteen minutes removing two people from the car just outside of the front porch of the house. These two people were taken to Provena St. Mary’s Hospital. Privacy laws prevented the release of the victims’ names.

Police are investigating the cause of a crash that sent a Kankakee man to the hospital on Wednesday afternoon at around 3:15 p.m. According to sources familiar with the accident, the man’s motorcycle was struck by a car at 2740S Road at Route 45/52. While the extent of the man’s injuries is not yet known, emergency crews believe he may have suffered a broken leg in the accident.

Seven car accidents involving twelve vehicles occurred within a five-minute time span on Monday morning, sending six people to the Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka. According to authorities, the accidents occurred around 7:25 a.m. on Illinois 1 at CR 2100N.
The injured individuals were treated at the hospital while law enforcement officers investigated the cause of the collisions. Fog is believed to be a contributing factor in the accidents.
