Posted on April 27th, 2012 No Comments

An early morning car chase ended up causing injury to a window washer on scaffolding upon collision with the scaffolding in downtown Chicago.

During the early morning hours of April 26th, the driver of an Infiniti was headed east on Ohio Street when a BMW began following the car and rear-end it once. The BMW hit the first car again, this time causing the Infiniti to lose control and hit a taxi cab. It then hit a Ford truck that is owned by a window cleaning company.

The truck or the Infiniti then hit the scaffolding. A worker was on top of the scaffolding, cleaning windows to a restaurant. The worker then fell 25 feet to the ground. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where the worker’s condition was stabilized. The taxi driver was taken to Northwestern as well but he was treated and released.

Family of Dead Trucker Awarded $1 million By Federal Jury

Posted on April 13th, 2012 No Comments

On April 10, 2012, a federal jury awarded relatives of a truck driver over $1 million from a lawsuit claiming the man was denied prompt medical attention after a vehicular accident.

In 2008, Donald Wells was driving a semi-tractor trailer truck that careened off an expressway in the city of Chicago. The truck crashed into the Chinatown Red Line CTA station, striking pedestrians and the station’s main stairwell that leads up to the elevated tracks. Two people were killed and 21 were injured in the incident.

Well’s family claimed in the lawsuit that the Metamora, Michigan resident was delayed from getting needed medical attention by Chicago police officers. He died a few weeks after the accident. The federal jury awarded the settlement after holding the city responsible for detaining Wells too long.

City of Chicago attorneys stated that they will challenge the decision.

Fire Sweeps Over Building, Destroys Three Businesses

Posted on September 9th, 2011 No Comments

Fire gutted a 90,000 square foot building on Grinnell Road in Kankakee that was the home to three businesses. The strong winds of Friday, September 2, 2011 propelled the fire that caused explosions and fifty foot high flames. Smoke from the fire was seen ten miles away.

The fire started in the southern section of the building that was home to River Valley Recycling around 1:30 p.m. At times the sounds of muffled explosions were heard and were thought to be caged propane tanks used at the recycling plant.

The tanks were apparently the cause of the high flames.

Kankakee Fire Chief Ron Young was told that no one remained in the building and no firefighters were hurt while containing the blaze. However, the building housed two other businesses – Tru –Cut Machinery and a tannery – that have lost equipment in the fire.
