One passenger was sent to a local hospital after complaining of injuries during a turbulent flight from New Orleans to Chicago.
An American Eagle 7:27 a.m. flight on a Bombardier CRJ- 700 plane left New Orleans from Louis Armstrong International Airport. During the flight, as the plane descended from 31,000 feet to 29,000 feet, the aircraft hit some turbulence. The movement was severe enough to cause seat belt lights to activate.
When the 26-passenger plane landed at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport at 9:31 a.m., three passengers complained of neck and back injuries. Fire officials reported that one of the three people went to the hospital. The other two passengers complaining of injury declined medical attention.

The council of the City of Chicago has endorsed a $22.5 million settlement in a police misconduct case that left a woman severely and permanently disabled.
In May 2006, Christina Eilman was 21 years old when she was traveling back home to California. However, she was not allowed to board her flight and was arrested at Midway Airport after displaying bizarre and erratic behavior. Her parents called the police department to let them know that Eilman suffered from Bipolar Depression.
After Eilman was taken to the Wentworth Police station, she was released into the surrounding high-crime neighborhood instead of being taken to a hospital for treatment for mental health issues. There she was abducted, raped at knife-point, and fell out of a 7th story window in an abandoned public housing building. Eilman suffered traumatic brain injury, a broken pelvis and many other injuries.
Six years later, Eilman can only walk with the assistance of a walker. She has several pins in her back. Her bipolar diagnosis has exacerbated to the point that she has been hospitalized 12 times in the last two years.
While a settlement of this size cannot return a person’s health, it can insure that they have the care they need for the rest of their life. If you or a loved one know someone has been injured due to neglect, call Spiros Law at 815-929-9292 for professional legal advice. Visit the website at www.spiroslaw.com.

The 21-year-old woman was at the intersection of Ashland and Fullerton when the accident occurred between two taxi cars. One of the taxis ran a red light and hit a second taxi. That sent the second car towards the sidewalk in which the second car hit the woman before crashing into a liquor store.
The young woman was sent to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center where she is in stable but serious condition. The driver of the second cab and a passenger in the first cab suffered minor injuries. The driver of the first cab, Kakajan Islamov, was treated and released. The 27-year-old Chicago resident was later cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

A malfunctioning escalator at a commuter rail station in New Jersey sent three people to the hospital yesterday.
On Monday, January 7, commuters were on an ascending escalator in the Exchange Place PATH station in Jersey City as a part of a normal work day. Around 9:00 a.m. the escalator suddenly stopped and began heading down instead. People panicked with some jumping over the side as the escalator was moving.
Five people were reported to have been hurt in the incident although only three people were taken to the hospital as a precaution. Injuries included scrapes and bruises as well as neck and back pain.
It is unknown at this time why the escalator reversed direction. After the incident, two of the station’s three escalators were shut down. The Exchange Place station had suffered damage during Super Storm Sandy but it is not clear if this malfunction was a residual effect of that damage.
When an injury happens, the long term damage does not always show up right away. If you or a loved one know someone who has been injured because of a malfunctioning device on a public property, call Spiros Law at 815-929-9292 to find out your legal rights. Visit the website at www.spiroslaw.com
