Labeau, 50, traveled into the ditch on the west side of the road along with his motorcycle. Mulac landed in the roadway while his cycle moved into the ditch on the east side of the road. It appears that Mulac was hit by three other vehicles, the last of which stopped and the driver called 911.
Mulac was pronounced dead at the scene. He was found without a helmut. Labeau was wearing a helmut. He was found to have scrapes on his arm and refused medical treatment. At this time the investigation into the crash by police is ongoing.

Two people lost their lives in separate Will County crashes over the weekend. The first one occurred Friday night and the second occurred early Saturday morning.
According to local police officials, the first crash occurred at 10:50 p.m. in Lockport Township on Briggs Street when a 30-year-old man was traveling at a ‘high speed’ and collided into the back of another motorcycle that was being driven by a 50-year-old man.
The 30-year-old man was thrown from the cycle and remained in the roadway as his cycle traveled into a ditch. The 50-year-old man’s motorcycle also traveled into a ditch.
The 30-year-old was then struck by three vehicles while laying in the roadway, only the last vehicle remained at the scene to assist in the investigation. The man was later pronounced dead at the scene. The 50-year-old was not injured and refused treatment at the scene.
The second crash occurred after 3:30 a.m. when a 22-year-old man was traveling on Steger Road and he lost control of his car causing it to crash into a tree. The impact caused the car to burst into flames. The driver suffered leg injuries and the passenger was killed as a result of the collision. Police have stated that alcohol was a factor in the collision and charges are currently pending while a full investigation takes place.

Traffic accidents resulting in fatalities are on the upswing for Illinois motorists.
Last week, the Illinois Department of Transportation noted that traffic fatalities in 2012 are up 9 percent from 2011. The reasons why are many. Roughly 10 percent of this year’s fatalities are related to distracted driving, specifically drivers checking text and email messages.
Another group that has seen an increase is fatalities due to motorcycle accidents. To combat this issue, the State Police are initiating a new program called Operation Rogue Rider that targets speeding motorcyclists. They are asking the public to call police whenever they see motorcyclists that are driving too fast.
Lastly, while the poor economy is not seen as a factor as a reason for increase in fatalities, lower fuel prices does contribute to more people being on the road. An increase in traffic leads to more congestion and more opportunities for accidents.
Other factors in the increase are more DUI accidents and wrong-way drivers. One wrong-way accident resulted in the deaths of four people.
