The Albany Park neighborhood in Chicago was the scene of an accident on the morning of Monday, December 12 in which a car struck a pedestrian after hitting several parked cars. The vehicle then smashed into a flower shop.
The accident occurred around 7:15 in the morning as a pedestrian was waiting for the #82 Kimball/Homan bus at Irving Park Road. A silver Buick sedan was seen going faster than normal in a northerly direction on Kimball. The driver veered right and hit some parked cars before hitting the pedestrian. It then hit a black SUV and both vehicles crashed into Bonnie Flower Shop, going through the store front window.
The pedestrian was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital and was reported to be in critical condition. The driver was taken to a different hospital but that person’s condition is unknown at this time.

On the 21st of December a concerned citizen called in an accident that occurred near milepost 316 on Interstate 57 in Bradley.
Emergency responders from the Bourbonnais Fire Protection District and Illinois State Police found a 2004 Chevrolet submerged upside down in a pond about one mile north of the I-57 exit for Bradley and Bourbonnais.
The body of the driver, Joliet resident Michael L. Simms, was recovered from the vehicle. It was reported that the Chevrolet left the southbound lane if the interstate before over-turning and sliding into the pond. The cause of the accident is under investigation. The 27-year-old Simms was a former player on the Kankakee County Soldiers basketball team.

Nearly 300,000 teddy bears have been recalled by Build-A-Bear after it was found that they may pose a choking hazard to small children.
The issue may arise if the eye button becomes lose and children put it in their mouth.
There have not been any injuries from the recall at this time.
The recalled product, the ‘Colorful Hearts Teddy’ bear was sold in the U.S. for $18 and Canada for $23. Consumers who purchased the bear are urged to bring it back to the store in order to change it out for another bear.

Two people were injured as a result
of a two-car accident on Illinois Route 115.
According to police officials, the accident occurred when a the driver of a Chevy Trailblazer swerved into oncoming traffic and struck the front of an SUV. The driver of the SUV had to be removed from the vehicle with the Jaws of Life and she was transported to the hospital as a result.
The man driving the Trailblazer was also taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. The accident is currently being constructed by professionals using the help of witnesses.

A man from Chicago Heights was killed in a car accident that occurred near Clifton on Saturday.
According to police officials, the man’s brother recently died and he was on his way to be with his family when he was involved in an accident.
The man was traveling eastbound on 2900N Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign and collided into the back of a semitrailer. The man was ejected from the pickup truck as a result and died of injuries sustained.

A 36-year-old man from Chicago has been cited after a semi-truck rollover accident occurred on Interstate 57.
The driver told police that there was a deer in the road and he had to swerve the vehicle in order to avoid it. State police stated that the driver may have been going too fast and this is what caused him to lose control of the vehicle.
The semi-truck, which was transporting 8,000 pounds of furniture, flipped and rolled over across the roadway. The interstate was closed for three hours and traffic was directed to Route 17. The man was transported to Provena St. Mary’s Hospital in order to be treated and was also cited for improper lane usage as a result of the accident.

The leaking of some type of liquid at a chemical company in Kankakee, BASF Corp., this morning causing the evacuation of the facility.
According the chief of the Kankakee Fire Department, a response team composed of hazardous material specialists responded to the call in order to determine what the liquid was and to clean up the spill.
The department was called just before 8 a.m. when the leaking liquid was noticed near a staircase. An investigation into the accident will be done whenever crews decide that the area is safe.

A 76-year-old Chicago woman was hit by a Dodge Caravan on Saturday morning and died later that day from her injuries. The driver allegedly fled from the scene but was later arrested for leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
The accident took place on December 5, 2011 in the 4500 block of Sunnyside Avenue in the Albany Park neighborhood of Chicago. Hyun Cho was crossing the street at 7:15 a.m. when she was hit by a blue 2006 Dodge Caravan driven by Jose Cornejo-Flores, a 51 year old Guatemalan immigrant.
Cho died later that day and a subsequent autopsy determined she died from multiple injuries caused by the crash.
Cornejo-Flores did not assist Cho nor did he give his information to police before leaving the scene. He has since been arrest and held on a bail of $50,000.

Front Row Produce, based in St. Louis, is recalling grape tomatoes that have the potential to be contaminated with
the salmonella virus. The Food and Drug Administration along with the company is currently investigating the source of the problem.
Ten-ounce pint and 10-pounds bulk grape tomatoes are being recalled in Missouri and Illinois where Front Row Produce distributes its products. The grape tomatoes come from Rio Queen Citrus of Mission, Texas. It was through Rio Queen Citrus that the contamination was discovered during random testing of the produce.
No illnesses have been reported at this time. But the most common symptoms are diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever that can occur within 8 hours to 72 hours of eating the contaminated product. For those with a weakened immune system, the virus can be life threatening.

Thanksgiving meal preparations sickened 20 people at a North Side Chicago home when a grill was used inside the home. The result was seven people being sent to the hospital while remaining party attendees were treated on site.
Around approximately 10:35 p.m., five ambulances were called to the scene in the 4300 block of West Roscoe Street because of high carbon monoxide levels with accordance
to an EMS Plan 1. Victims reported feeling lightheaded and having some nausea. Levels of carbon monoxide rose when a grill was brought into the home during a Thanksgiving celebration.
Seven members of the party were sent to Our Lady of Resurrection Medical Center and West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park with minor injuries.
