A well-known former ONU chaplain is recovering after a motorcycle accident last week left him with a fractured skull and three broken ribs. The accident occurred shortly after noon on March 16th at the Indian Oaks road and Career Center intersection, when a vehicle turned into him while he was riding his motorcycle in the northbound lanes.
The driver of the other vehicle received a traffic ticket at the scene of the accident.

A 17-year old Chicago teen was killed when she was struck by a van while on a biking trip through southern Illinois. Two other teens were injured in the collision and were transported to a local hospital. The accident occurred on Wednesday in Gallatin County, and authorities believe the van (driven by an 86-year old man) crossed the center line and struck
the cyclists.

A Cabery family remains unharmed after their home suddenly burst into flames on Wednesday night. The home was powered on propane and a family member reported that the incident occurred shortly after the thermostat was adjusted. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire.

A 25-year old man from Gardner was pronounced dead after a single-vehicle crash on Illinois Route 53 early Tuesday morning. The accident occurred at 1:45 a.m. at Route 53 and Smith Road in Braceville. According to sources familiar with the case, the vehicle was heading northbound when it began swerving in between lanes and went off the road before striking a tree on the southeast side of the road. Authorities are still investigating the exact cause of the crash.

One person was injured in a three-vehicle accident at an intersection in Lemont, Illinois Tuesday.
According to Illinois State Police, the crash occurred shortly after 5:00 p.m. Tuesday at the four-way intersection of Walker and McCarthey roads. The driver who caused the accident was traveling south on Walker Road, entered the intersection and clipped the rear of a car driving eastbound on McCarthy Road. The force of the impact sent the eastbound car into on-coming traffic where it was struck by a westbound vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle that entered the intersection was transported to Bolingbrook Hospital with life-threatening injuries, police say. The injured man was also cited for failure to yield.
The other two drivers were uninjured in the crash.

Two children were airlifted to the Loyola Medical Center in Maywood after a house fire in Kankakee left both in critical condition
on Friday morning. Authorities believe that a medical oxygen tank and a neglected frying pan may have contributed to the early morning blaze that filled the home with fire and smoke. The children, ages 12 and 4 were airlifted to the hospital for smoke inhalation and remain in critical condition.

Authorities say that a 2-month old boy was killed on Saturday afternoon when the SUV he was riding in drove off of the roadway and onto the median
and overturned. According to sources familiar with the case, the child may not have been properly placed in a safety restraint or the device may not have been properly installed in the vehicle, and he was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. A 51-year old woman and a 17-year old passenger were also injured in the crash and were transported to Iroquois Memorial Hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Seven car accidents involving twelve vehicles occurred within a five-minute time span on Monday morning, sending six people to the Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka. According to authorities, the accidents occurred around 7:25 a.m. on Illinois 1 at CR 2100N.
The injured individuals were treated at the hospital while law enforcement officers investigated the cause of the collisions. Fog is believed to be a contributing factor in the accidents.
