Bicyclist killed After Crash with SUV

Crystal Lake was the scene of a fatal accident involving a bicyclist and an SUV.

Gordon McClain was traveling by bicycle on U.S. Highway 14 near Illinois Highway 31 on November 19th. As he crossed U.S. 14 from the north shoulder to the south shoulder, McClain crashed into the driver’s side of an SUV which was traveling east on U.S. 14. The bicycling enthusiast was thrown to the pavement after hitting the vehicle.

McClain, 57, was pronounced dead at the scene around 5:45 p.m. He suffered head injuries and was not wearing a helmut. However, the autopsy performed the following day showed that McClain died from chest injuries, not head injuries. The 48-year-old female driver of the SUV, who is a resident of Aurora, was not cited at this time.

The accident remains under investigation.
