Bicyclist hit by pickup truck in critical condition

Sixty-six-year-old Kankakee, Illinois resident Elmer Caffee had been riding his bicycle when he was struck by a pickup truck operated by 24-year-old Clifton resident Larry Frantz on South Schuyler Avenue near the River Road intersection in Kankakee on Wednesday, September 2.

Caffee was said to have sustained critical head injuries, a Kankakee Fire Department report showed. He was taken to the Loyola Medical Center in Maywood and was listed under critical condition after the accident.

Frantz received a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. He was brought to Presence St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee after the incident and was found to be mostly unharmed.
